1. You should wear a helmet when you ride a motorcycle. (Frankly, some internet users should be wearing one 24/7, amiright?!). Because you know what happens when you crash on a motorcycle when not wearing a helmet? You die. This year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally had more fatalities than the deadliest year at the Isle of Man TT, with 12 dead bikers. Between Harley’s controversy over the past few weeks and the Grim Reaper’s guest appearance at Sturgis, “Harley Biker Culture” is looking worse than ever. Of the perished riders, only 3 were wearing helmets. Apparently crime was rampant as well. There were 163 felony drug charges, 281 misdemeanor drug charges, and 155 DUI’s. Who put this thing together, Satan and Dionysus?

2. Asian street squids might be in luck! Rumors are circulating that Honda has plans for a 400 cc inline 4 motorcycle a la the Kawasaki ZX-4R. The ZX-4R has been pretty successful since its debut, so Honda is pulling the ol’ CFmoto trick and copying Kawasaki’s homework. If this rumored machine got worldwide distribution, it would likely put the CBR500R to shame, a bike that is notoriously bloated and underpowered compared to other smaller sport bikes. We’re in a bit of a dismal era for true sport bikes, so maybe this is a glimmer of sunshine in a parallel twin shit storm.

3. Motorcycles aren’t supposed to just stop right? Like when you’re moving at speed, they’re not supposed to just turn off entirely? I didn’t think so. But apparently that’s an added feature on Harley Davidson’s LiveWire models. The EV producer has issued a recall for all 2024 S2 Del Mar and Mulholland bikes. Somewhat ironically, it is a total of less than 800 machines. I guess LiveWires aren’t selling so hot these days. Apparently under “rapid acceleration events” a high voltage fuse can get stuck open, cutting all power to the motor without warning. Leaving LiveWire riders in unsafe situations, and ultimately delaying their arrivals to the “Young Tech Entrepreneur AI Lithium Mining Meta Ray Ban Glasses” networking luncheon.

4. We’re in the era of “not-so-supersports”. We’ve got the R7, the GSX-8R, and the Daytona 660. High revving short stroke sport bikes are being replaced by practical twins with more agreeable ergonomics. Is Ducati going to give the same treatment to their V2 platform? The Superquadro V-Twin, the engine found in the Panigale V2 and the Street Fighter V2, is disappearing from Ducati’s line up in 2025. This leaves the Testastretta V2 found in the Super Sport, Hypermotard, Multistrada, Monster,, and DessertX as the only twin cylinder engine left. It is speculated that for 2025, Ducati will nix the existing Panigale V2 as well as the Super Sport in favor of a new machine. Will it be a feigned hybridization of the two? A Monster with fairings? The jury is still out, but fans of the of the existing Panigale V2 platform have expressed their concerns.
